Arthur "ART" L. Conway

Arthur “ART” L. Conway, age 73, of Lakeville, died peacefully on Saturday, February 17, 2024, after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by his family. 

Born on October 17, 1950, in Middleborough to the late Robert & Lillian (Angers) Conway, Arthur was a lifelong resident of Lakeville, and graduated from Apponequet Regional High School, learning the mechanic trade.  He started out with Nemasket Construction Company as a mechanic, where he made many lifelong friends.  Art then built his own garage and was self-employed until the mid-eighties.  He went to work for McCabe Sand and Gravel Company for 18 years as head mechanic, before re-opening his business, Conway Trucking and Repair, until retirement.  Art considered himself as a ”pretty good mechanic”, but we all knew better as he was brilliant!  He loved drag racing his Chevy Gassers, especially his 56 Chevy, the 409 Stump Puller.  Art drag raced in Maine, New Hampshire, Ohio, Kentucky, Florida, and Alabama, fulfilling his lifelong dream.

Arthur was the beloved husband of Jean Kingsbury-Conway;  loving father of, Shawn Conway of Lakeville, Ryan Conway of Rhode Island, Alan Conway of Dighton;  step-father of, Jeffrey Kingsbury of Taunton, Jason Kingsbury of Florida;  dear brother of George Conway and his wife Sandy of Lakeville;  cherished grandfather of, Liam and Fiona;  nephews, George Conway, Jr. and Jeffrey Conway;  and his niece Bridget Conway.  He also leaves behind many cousins and friends.

Family and friends are welcome to the visiting hours at the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak Street, Middleborough, on Thursday, February 29, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 PM.

Funeral & Interment Services will be private.
