John L. Lemmo, age 82, of Middleborough, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 1, 2020, after a battle with cancer at the Nemasket Healthcare Center in Middleborough.
Born on June 27, 1937, he was the son of the late John A. & Edna E. (Clark) Lemmo. He was born and raised in Middleborough and lived there most of his life. John attended Middleborough schools and the Taunton Vocational School before joining the U.S. Navy in 1954, where he served until 1958. He was a truck driver for most of his life and was the Owner & Operator of Lemmo & Son Trucking until his retirement in 1997. John loved spending time with his family. He had many interests and hobbies, some of which included his love of music; he was a self-taught harmonica player, enjoyed woodworking, building model airplanes, gardening and taking his camper to Cape Cod. He also loved animals and nature. John was a member of the Middleborough Elks and enjoyed playing shuffleboard.
John was the loving husband of the late Betty (Johnson) Lemmo before her death in 2004. He is survived by his daughter, Sherry (Lemmo) Cowan & her husband Paul Cowan; a son, Shawn Lemmo & his wife Laurie (Howe) Lemmo; three grandchildren, Stephanie Cowan, Scott Cowan and Zachary Lemmo; a sister, Caroline (Lemmo) Pickering of Attleboro; a brother, David Lemmo of Middleborough as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. John is also survived by his girlfriend, Mary Beth Mann. He was the brother of the late Barbara (Lemmo) Westgate.
Funeral and interment services will be private.
