HISTORY OF THE ASHLEY FUNERAL HOME:
Mr. Jethro O. Ashley, Jr. was born in June 1928 in Acushnet, MA.
He is the son of the late Jennie (Bennett) & Jethro O. Ashley, Sr.
Jethro grew up and lived in Acushnet, MA; attended Acushnet schools and graduated from New Bedford High School, the Class of 1947.
He attended Boston University, in Boston, MA, majoring in Business Administration.
Jethro went on and attended New England Institute of Mortuary School in Boston, MA and graduated the Class of 1952.
After college, he joined the U.S. Army Medical Core for two years.
In 1959, Jethro married Ann (Bradford) and shared 52 years of marriage.
Jethro founded the Ashley Funeral Home in February 1970, serving the families of Middleborough, MA, for almost 50 years.
In 2018, he decided to enjoy retirement.
Jethro resides in Middleborough, MA; he has two daughters, Lisa A. Cantalupo and Lori E. Ashley and two grandchildren, Joseph Carnabuci and Valeri Azevado.
Mr. John R. Drolette was born in March 1967 in Malden, MA.
He is the son of Mrs. Irene (Stanton) Drolette of Hanson, MA, formerly of Bourne, MA and Belmont, MA & the late Joseph “Les” L. Drolette, Sr.
John grew up in Bourne, MA and attended Bourne Public Schools, graduating from Bourne High School, the Class of 1985.
He attended New England Institute of Applied Arts & Sciences in Kenmore Square, Boston, MA and graduated cum laude with an Associate’s Degree in Mortuary Sciences, the Class of 1987.
John began working as a funeral apprentice for Jethro in July 1987.
In 1991, John married Evelyn M. (Peacock) in Marshfield, MA.
The couple have lived in Marshfield, MA and Brockton, MA and currently reside in Halifax, MA with their two children, Craig and Erica.
John has worked in the funeral industry for over 31 years, serving many families.
In November 2018, John, his wife Evelyn, and his cousin Eileen Gautreau, purchases the Ashley Funeral Home in Middleborough, MA from Jethro.
Craig has chosen to join his father in this industry; he attends Fine Mortuary College in Norwood, MA and is earning his degree in Mortuary Sciences.
